Termites are a seemingly harmless pest at first glance, but these pests can tear apart your entire home and leave it in need of major repairs if you ignore them at your home. They appear to look like flying ants except that their wings are different. If you don't know what you're looking for, your home could already be ravaged by these pests. Termites are not a pest that you want in or around your home, but if they are already in the neighborhood, you could end up with the problem your neighbors have been battling as well. You need to pay attention to the signs of these pests that would indicate an issue. Read on for some sure signs of a termite problem.

1. Sawdust

Piles of sawdust may indicate a pest problem, although it could be carpenter ants, carpenter bees, or termites. You should still narrow down which pest you have in your home by doing some extra investigating. Don't just assume that if you have piles of sawdust you have termites. Take the extra step and check which pest you have a problem with before you start your exterminating.

2. Hollowed Wood

Hollowed wood may also indicate a problem with termites. Termites will chew through wood and will leave you with nothing more than a hollow shell of a piece of petrified wood. If you have spotted sawdust piles, check for hollowed-out wood as well. The wood more than likely will also have holes in it where the termites have bore holes through it. If you spot these holes and the wood is hollow, remove a piece of the wood and check inside.

3. Living Termites

If you have noticed the above-mentioned signs, you should check for living pests around your home. You may have already spotted them flying about and not really paid much attention to them. If you see flying insects, watch where they are coming and going, then look around for the signs mentioned above. Also, look for their mud tunnels where they may also be flying into. You may also spot them crawling along the ground as well, as not all termites fly. If you spot termites, you need to exterminate them quickly.

If you suspect that you have termites and you have spotted all of the signs, you need to call a pest control expert to help you get rid of them properly. For more information on termite control, contact a professional near you.
